Driving mechanisms for roller blinds

The roller blinds can be operated from the inside of the room and include two types of mechanisms: automatic and manual. The automatic mechanism is equipped with an electric equipment driven by a motor while the mechanical one, requires manual work.

Driving mechanisms for roller blinds

To choose which type of mechanism to use, you need to consider the following:

  • The window gap size, which considerably influences the weight of the roller blinds, and
  • Convenience or even the possibility of using, if elder people live in the house.

The mechanic system

This type is practical for offices, houses with not so large window, or villas. The mechanism may be operated with a spring, rope or reducer, depending on the weight of the roller blinds.

The spring mechanism is used in constructions with a width exceeding 52 cm, for low height windows, different doors or curtains. Therefore, the bottom profile may be equipped with a lock and security keys. To switch on the roller blinds, they will raise the canvas, and the rest of the procedure will be carried out by the spring mechanism. This type of roller blinds has an affordable price, is durable and has a long service life. They are suitable for children rooms and rooms for the elderly people.

The rope mechanism the roller blinds shall not exceed the total weight of 15 kg. In this mechanism, the rope is rolled onto a shaft inside the cassette as the canvas rises. In the house, you can only set the level of the opening and set its position.

The reducer mechanism is designed for roller blinds weighing up to 20 kg. This mechanism is locked into a fixed position on the wall and operated with a handle which makes it very easy to lift the canvas of the roller blinds.

The electrical system

The roller blinds equipped with electrical system are comfortable and practical for use, regardless of their size. They may be easily operated through a switch closely mounted, key or remote control. The electrical roller blinds are easily used in houses, offices or villas with large rooms. The system allows lowering the canvas, even in the absence of electrical energy. As accessories, if you want, we can install different temperature, light or rain sensors. The way of mounting the electrical systems can be divided into two types: with wire and wireless.

Wire connection is safer, but it only involves additional work and expenses. To connect the roller blinds to the electrical network, the wall has to be drilled to set the cable and the switch. This way is more practical when the customers decide to make interior repairs or to change the electrical network, however this is not compulsory. The Plastregal specialists will mount the cableson the surface of the wall together with the switch without affecting the design of the room.

The switch can be directional or with clamp, and mounted inside. In the case of directional switch, you will have to stay away from the construction during the lifting of canvas. It is sufficient to turn the direction you need and you can leave. Instead, the clamp switch requires you to hold down the button.

The key switch is mounted outside or inside, and shall be used for doors. The set includes three keys.

Wireless connection is easier to be mounted. It is distinguished by the additional installation of special sensors that communicate with the electric motor. Optionally, an additional roller blinds mechanism is added for the case when the electricity is disconnected.

The automated system involves the use of the remote control. It can open any of the desired roller blinds or it can group some roller blinds together. You can also work separately with each roller blind, while one is opening and the other is closing, etc.

Intelligent houses can be equipped with automatic mechanisms which will move the canvas of roller blinds either at a certain hour or before sunset, or they may create the effect of house owner’s presence.
